Nuclear war and nursing care

The Air Force recently demoted 17 officers from duty at a nuclear missile site, citing “rot” in the overall discipline. These officers were entrusted with nuclear launch codes and acted in a way that compromised the integrity of said codes.

  • According to the news report, one of the complaining commanders reported “‘such rot’ that that even the willful violation of safety rules — including a possible compromise of launch codes — was tolerated.”

  • Officers’ missile launch skills were “marginal, the equivalent of a ‘D’ rating.

  • One of the service’s generals is quoted as explaining that the “rot” relates to poor morale stemming from limited commanding jobs available. In other words, launch officers feel they “have no future.”
